Discovering Great Mormon Buildings

Ogden Tabernacle Exterior

This building is currently under renovation along with the adjacent Ogden Temple. I am unsure as to what changes will be made to the building other than the removal of the steeple. It is unfortunate that such a great steeple will be gone.

If you scroll to pic # 5 in this collection, you can see the tabernacle sans steeple. Kind of sad.

  3. Why are they taking off the steeple? That just seems weird to me.

  4. I didn’t realize the steeple was already down. It must have been recently – in the last few weeks. The last time I drove by, it was still up. The reason I heard for why they were removing it, was so it didn’t visually compete with the temple. It’s too bad, because it was a better steeple than the one the temple will have.

I heard they were going to put the old tabernacle steeple on the new temple… hearsay, of course.

      • That would be great if they did, but it doesn’t appear that way from the rendering of the new temple I’ve seen.
