LDS ARCHITECTURE 
What a beautiful chapel! I have been attending a ward in a building with windows on either side for the past two years but just returned to a ward building with no windows in the chapel, like worshiping in a dungeon.

I attended in this chapel as a kid in the 80s, and always loved the design. Only recently did I realize what a modernist gem it is! It may not be immediately evident from the picture, but there is a slope to the floor, which I enjoyed sending my toy cars down. There was a cry room with a glass window to the right of the stand, where we had Sunbeams. There was a large dilapidated area in the basement which was converted into a spook alley for Halloween. The choir area was particularly pronounced for a chapel, and I recall that nearly always the organ and piano accompanied the congregation together. I agree with the previous comment that it is really refreshing to have that much natural light coming in to the chapel. I’ve seen some more interesting designs recently. They just put in a new chapel near us here in Mesa, Az on Old Gilbert Road which has a lot of character with big gothic windows and a pronounced steeple. The new chapel by the Gilbert Temple has flat rooflines and more of a ‘southwest’ feel to it.

Fortunately, it looks like the church on the opposite corner of the block was torn down, not the 3rd ward.

I grew up attending there and my family still attends the 3rd Ward. I’m glad it’s still there it’s where I’ll be having my wedding reception in a few months.
