Discovering Great Mormon Buildings

Ovid Ward Exterior

I believe this used to be the ward meetinghouse for this small town. I hope to get confirmation and info from the Church History Library, but any dates/etc would be greatly appreciated. The building is currently privately owned.

Hmm. As long as you’re up there, I think I could maybe find the rough directions to the old Nounan building (now a residence — or at least it was last I knew about 15 years ago.) Bear Lake County has some great buildings though.

    • I’m back now, but if you find it, do let me know. I’ll be back up there at some point to Bancroft and Lava Hot Springs, so I could easily swing by Nounan. I was unaware that there was a meetinghouse there.

I think it was out of use by the 50s, and you might have a hard time seeing the house for the church. Imagine something like this that’s been a residence for decades, and additions made to that purpose.

    From my mom:

Take the Nounan Road and just keep following it. it will be just past the Skinner Canyon road on the left side. It’s been made into a house so it doesn’t look much like a chapel anymore. The old school is just past the chapel – it’s been used as a barn but kind of still looks like a school.

Oh: and it’s not as long unused as I thought. I mom was blessed there (b. 1953) and was old enough before it became a house that she can regret not getting a picture of it.
