The architectural plans say this is a Douglas W. Burton design. But, Douglas definitely borrowed extensively from his father for this one. What a great building.

    • I agree it’s a fantastic building. So the plans do list Douglas? In the Ward Manuscript History it simply said Bro. Burton, so factoring in the date it was built I made an educated guess.

    Looks like the LA temple.

    • Burton was a Los Angeles-based architect, so this would definitely make sense.

Too bad they don’t do the Christmas pageant here anymore. It was really neat to see the angels up on the roof.

The Chapel inside is awesome with hanging glass chandeliers. It has been added on to several times, but is still a great building.

  6. I attended this bldg in the 9th ward as a youth 35 years ago, again as a young single adult in the singles ward, and a third time as a young married with a baby again in the 9th ward. 9th ward no longer exists (sad!), but yesterday I attended a funeral of one of the 9th ward old-timers (they are dwindling fast) in that bldg and was overwhelmed with so many great memories. I don’t know how I could have forgotten how cool & beautiful that bldg is.
