This beautiful glass goes all the way to the floor of the balcony, but the pew in front of it and the sloping ceiling above makes it difficult to get a photo of the entire work of art. Definitely worth a visit to see, though.

Whittier Ward Stained Glass
This window is located at the rear of the chapel facing the street where the entry is. The Amusement hall was built first, just after the creation of the ward in 1924. After the Hall was completely paid off in 1936, the building was dedicated, and work began on the Chapel. By 1938, the Chapel was completed, paid off, and dedicated by David O McKay. The design of this meetinghouse was done by Church Headquarters as one of the Department Projects, most of which were actually designed by Joseph Don Carlos Young.

Kaysville Tabernacle Stained Glass
This Chapel has some of the nicest stained glass I have seen in an LDS building. The entire room is filled with the glass, and it is not only beautiful, but in really good condition as well, filling the space with a warm, soft and diffused light. I was able to get into the Chapel because of a 160-year anniversary celebration the ward held yesterday afternoon. There were several booths sharing the history and photos of the building. I was surprised and happy to see the two photos I previously posted of this building as part of a display in the lobby. Unfortunately, there was no indication that the photos were mine. I didn’t think this would need to be said, but please do not use photos from this site in any way without at least an acknowledgement as to where you received them. Oakland Tabernacle Chapel Interior
This would have originally been an exterior wall but a building addition was placed adjacent to this side of the chapel blocking the sunlight from coming through the lower windows. The addition is apparently shorter than the chapel since sunlight is still coming through the small round upper windows.

Claremont Ward Window

Dedicated 1955. Renamed Oakland 5th Ward in 1965. Ward dissolved in 1970 and sold to a Christian church – possibly the Unification Church (Moonies). Sold to Hare Krishna’s several years after this.

This is looking up at the ceiling of the chapel. The gap in the structural framework allows for the skylight across the ridge.
