Salt Lake Liberty Ward Exterior

Construction began April 6, 1908 and was completed six months later, with services first held on October 11, 1908. The plan is unusual for LDS chapels, being in the shape of a traditional Christian cruciform. Additionally, the stained glass windows contain crosses, beehives and the first vision. The grand exterior stair leading to the tower entry has been completely changed, as can be seen from the original image below. The building was remodeled in 1917 by architects Cannon and Fetzer. And an Amusement Hall was added in 1924.

Logan 1st Ward Pew

These appear to be original pews in the chapel. Looking at the base of the pew shows that the floor slopes down to the front of the chapel. Also, I have been neglecting to list the architects on this building, which I have done here and added to the previous posts.

Logan 1st Ward Chapel Balcony

The doors on both sides of the chapel lead directly to classrooms, which is quite a nice feature. The three sets of double entry doors lead directly to a lobby that in turn leads to the columned entry off the street – all set on a strict classically-influenced axis. Here is an exterior picture showing the entry. At both sides of the lobby are stairs leading up to the balcony. And at the two upper level corners are classrooms. The windows of these rooms can be seen in the exterior photo linked above.

Somehow I incorrectly labeled the window detail post last week. It’s not the 4th Ward as I originally labeled it, but is from this building, the 1st ward.
